Recruit Information

     

Recruit Processing & Forming
On Processing Day 1 [P1]/Forming Day 1 [F1], all required forms will be completed to start your child’s record book.      
    
   Physicals; 
Current physicals [within 1 calendar year] are required by the start of P1-your child can not 
    participate until physicals completed by a doctor are submitted; exceptions are not permitted under any 
    circumstance.

You and your child’s presence is required, and may take up to two hours [of your time], contingent on the number of recruits being processed.  Once processing is completed, training will start in the afternoon of P1/F1.

Recruit Platoon 1-12 Schedule
   2/25             P1/F1/T1 Processing/Forming 7:30a-11:30a [Recruits and parents] and 12p-4p [Recruits only].
                                            
*physicals must be available at 7:30a with half-fees [minimum]
   3/10             T2             Training Day 2 *all fees due by COB    
   3/24-3/25    T3-T4       Training Day 3 & 4* (change)
   4/14             T5             Training Day 5* (change)
   4/28             G1             Graduation Day @ 1400hrs* (change)

Fees

A $250 fee is due upon Recruit Platoon registration, which cover guidebook, uniforms and a hydration pack.  Annual insurance fees of $20 are due in July-included in initial registration fees.  

            DEPers join at $150 with a partial uniform issued and the balance due when assigned to a recruit platoon;
            at which time, the rest of the uniforms will be issued for graduation. Fees are non-refundable. 


Uniform of the Day [UDs] & materials/equipment; Physical Training [PT] gear.
  • Summer-plain black athletic shorts, plain white crew neck T-shirt, white crew (mid calf) socks, athletic (running) shoes, aka go-fasters.
  • Winter-plain gray sweat pants with plain black athletic shorts beneath white crew (mid calf) socks, athletic (running) shoes aka go-fasters.
  • Additional winter items; plain black knit hats and plain black gloves.
Materials & equipment
  • clear, plastic water bottle [this is very important]

  • Medications required [Rx label in original container] during the training day and/or event with interval and dosage schedule. 

  • corrective eye glasses (contacts strongly discouraged) with athletic straps,
  • meal sacks/cooler

  • sunscreen/lip balm

  • pencil/pen and note book/pad and

  • BYM knowledge (issued handouts/guidebooks).

    • A plain black, medium-sized labeled/identifiable gear bag is strongly encouraged to stow your child’s gear.

 

Appearance and hygiene
Cosmetics, jewelry [except medical items, religious medallions concealed by their UDs, conservative watches, class/YM rings] and hair products are prohibited.  Male Recruits are to be properly and conservatively groomed and female recruits with hair longer than the bottom edge of the collar must be inconspicuously fastened or pinned.

Good personal hygiene is required; trimmed finger nails [no polish] and general body cleanliness.  Cuts or sores must be bandaged with additional bandaging available, if required.


Electronics
Cellular phones and pagers will be turned off and maintained by the ECYM Staff, with opportunities to make legitimate emergency calls.  No other portable electronic devices are permitted during training days.

Reinforcement
Your child should be encouraged to be physically active throughout the week maintaining good hydration, and eat optimum meals (quality and quantity) to develop performance through the training cycle.

Hold your child accountable to the YM Creed, YM Obligation, customs and courtesies, and any other knowledge covered, within your parenting time to reach the maximum level of discipline, leadership and teamwork the program is developing.
 

Consult our staff if you have particular difficulties, so we can develop an engaging mentoring session between you, your child and the program’s staff.
 

Feedback on your child’s school performance and conduct will be sought throughout their participation.

Graduation
Your child will be mentored and trained to participate in graduation as a basically trained Young Marine, including but not unlimited to; acceptable school and home conduct, acceptable school performance and attendance, training day attendance, Physical Fitness Test [PFT], YM knowledge by written or verbal exam, and exhibition of YM principles at home, school and at play.
